PROJECTS 2011/2012

I. OVERSEAS TARGET FUND 2011/2012
*Has 2 Projects

1. Karen People at Mae Salit Kee on the Thailand Myanmar Border.

MU Nursery School Update. At St. James Parish we are supporting a second school. It is an outreach to the community and it is situated in a moslem area.The MU President at the border Naw Tamla writes: "the school has 30 children, a Principal and three teachers. There are 17 girls and 13 boys."

Syllabus. Karen English Alphabets, names of fruits and animals, parts of the body, colours, days, months, times, and health; how to keep our bodies clean and healthy, shapes, numbers, games, and action songs.

Parents participate in school activities by providing rice lunch for their children, and attend school meetings, opening and closing ceremonies and they also join in Christmas celebrations with their children.

Training. Nursery school teachers train in Mae La Camp then they go back in October for a refresher course.

   

2. Burundi.

MU Australia 8-10 years ago, supported the Literacy Programme. As the Overseas Target Fund April this year, MU Australia agreed to partner Anglicord Melbourne and continue to support the Burundi MU Literacy Programme.

The training has now risen to a higher level. It has brought the building of economic empowerment to women in Burundi. Microfinance for the 110 Literacy Facilitators are trained through the Mothers' Union Literacy Programme. After the Five Talents Training the participants were full of enthusiasm and dedication.

II. DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FUND

Pilot Parenting Programme  April 6th - 14th 2011

Background - November 2010 The consultative seminar was held in Honiara. MU Australia went into partnership with Anglicord Melbourne for this seminar which was led by Mrs Sheran Harper, MU World Wide Parenting Trainer.

2011   Mrs Sheran Harper led the training of the Positive Parenting Programme in Honiara.  

Observers: Rev Rob and Mrs Kaye Healy, and Mrs Beverley Ovens.

12 trainers participated in the programme and received their certificate. In July/August they will commence training facilitators who will then conduct parenting sessions in their diocese.

Mrs Sheran Harper will continue with the assessments and support for the next three years.
