What in the World is MU doing

What in the World is it?

A single A4 page sheet giving information about an aspect of MU’s work somewhere in the world. It can he used as an information spot in a branch meeting, as a handout, as a means of interesting someone in MU or any other ways that you think up.

How in the World did it happen?

It started as an idea at my local MU Branch. We wanted to help people in our church learn more about what MU does. Then we realized that first we needed to help our MU members learn more what about MU does in other parts of our diocese, in Australia and throughout the world so they could talk to others.

Our solution was to ask members to research different aspects of MU’s work and to present a short spot at each meeting. We called it ‘What in the world is MU doing?’ And ran it quite successfully at our branch meetings in 2010. Then three times in the year we produced a small insert to go with the church weekly newssheet which focused on one aspect of MU, so we could use it for publicity outside our branch meeting too.

The next step came when I was talking to members of our MU Executive and they thought this idea could be used more widely. So we came up with four topics as a trial, two international and two local, we wrote half an A4 page on each, added a fancy heading and some pictures and then gave a copy to all our branches at our next Council meeting.

Although our plan was for branches to use them one at a time in their branch meetings, we found that once we circulated them, branches found different ways to use them. One used all four at an ‘information night’ about MU and put them around the wall as posters. Another went with our idea of a handout with the church newssheet, and yet another built their whole branch meeting around them. The use is only limited by people’s imagination.

The original four are being added to, and I would love to have some which tell of the work in various Australian Dioceses. The information about the work needs to be around 250 words long and we would like a couple of pictures to print on the sheet, if that’s possible. Please send material to me at education@mu.org.au.
