The first Branch of the Mothers’ Union in Tasmania was founded in 1892 at Cullenswood in the northeast of our Island state.
From this small beginning we have now grown to 22 branches and 248 members, which cover the areas from Burnie, Ulverstone, Devonport and Deloraine on the northwest coast.
In the north we have Launceston and Scottsdale, through the Midlands to Hobart and surrounding areas and as far south as Geeveston and Queenstown on the west coast.
We have 1 Caritas Group in the north of the State. Caritas is small , hopefully a new group will be starting soon.
A number of our branches are very much involved with Hospital visiting. Some also supply knitted items for newborn babies. We are concerned with what is shown on television for the young and through our Social Responsibilities Department we can voice our opinions on such matters.
As we go forward further into the new century we have to be aware of the needs of our younger members and find new ways of supporting and encouraging them and their families and nurture them to grow into loving Christian Families.
Prayer needs: Pray for greater enthusiasm and participation by all members.
