Diocese of Melbourne

MU Melbourne began in 1892 at the parish of Balaclava. Since then, groups of faithful women, and in recent times men too, have worked tirelessly to
encourage, strengthen, and support marriage and family life in this Diocese and throughout the world-wide Mothers' Union.

The Mothers' Union is now serving families in 81 countries world-wide and has a membership of over 4 million.

In our Diocese, we have 70 groups meeting as MU Branches, Caritas groups, and fellowship groups which meet regularly to pray, talk about our MU
vision, and keep up our network of prayer and fellowship.

Our Caritas groups reach out to the community through their "friendship in action" theme, inviting men and women to their gatherings, and providing a
first-hand experience of Christian love to many.

We also have an active ministry with Karen MU members (from Burma) and Sudanese members, who have fled from war and civil unrest to Australia.
Here MU flourishes in different ways, but still following the Aim and Objects of the world-wide Mothers' Union.

Our members are involved in their parishes and in the wider community, serving Jesus Christ through prayer and active support for families world-wide.
