MU DIOCESE OF BENDIGO

Kitchen Packs & More

On Wednesday July 29th MU Bendigo Diocese were part of a presentation to 74 households who lost their homes in the Bendigo Fires on February 7th 2009. The Recovery Centre in Eaglehawk, [Our Place] had facilitated the compilation and printing of a Recipe Book of tried and true recipes gathered from around the Diocese and beyond and MU members  had the challenge to put together ‘Kitchen Packs’ of ‘essential’ items from a list compiled by the Executive, which we felt  one could not do without in the kitchen. Donations also came in from many places, including the  National MU Disaster Fund,  groups and individuals near and far, plus a donation from St Paul’s  MU Linked Branch in Burbage, UK. These donations enabled Jenny and Barry Rainsford who supervised the project to firstly purchase items needed to complete some of the 74 Kitchen Packs and also to negotiate the purchase of 74 Sunbeam electric beaters. The Kitchen Packs were contained in a blue MU Australia bag and looked a picture sitting in Our Place waiting to be collected and put to good use. One recipient was hurrying home to show her son the goodies as he enjoyed cooking “but was a bit tired of beating everything with a spoon.”

‘Our Place’ has developed into a community hub and is well worth a visit should you be in the vicinity of Eaglehawk.
